In South Bay Calif. and need a motorcycle mechanic to come to my house to fix my clutch.?
I have a 1993 Honda VFR 750 in Redondo Beach and my bike and my clutch are not playing well together. Basically, if my car isn't running, I've got a few ideas up my sleeve to get it up and running again. If my bike isn't running, i stare at it and will it to work . . . . doesn't happen. My bike starts up and idles fine, but when I put it in 1st, it lurches forward and stalls. Additionally, I have positioned the clutch all the way out (away from the handlegrip) and I can put it in first, but it affects the idle and cant be put back into neutral or shifted into second. I am without a truck or a friend with a truck, so my question is: Does anyone know a motorcycle mechanic who will come to my house and fix this problem? If it is a clutch cable that needs to be replaced, how much can I anticipate to spend?
1) moving the lever out to the furtherest spot wont affect how the clutch engages - thats just for your comfort...
2) Sounds like, even though you have the clutch pulled in (neutral), the bike still engages, lurches and dies...that means the clutch is still engaging.
3) when you pull the lever, is the pull really light? If so, its your cable thats busted. If not, it could be that your clutch is just worn out. Is this the original clutch from 93?? Thats most likely the problem.
4) replacing a clutch is really easy - especially if you know how to work on a car. All you need are the clutch plates, friction plates and a gasket, plus some oil... Take off the clutch cover, remove the old clutch and replace with the new one - what I do is I take apart the old and remember how it goes back togehter, and just make sure you dont have any left overs! LOL!!! Ive changed three clutches myself, without any manual, its that simple to do.
5) IM in SF - if I was in your area, Id come replace it for you for cheap!
